Catherine Kleeli premieres at PAD a new body of her ‘Family Matters’ project. Through original prints and paintings, her current contemplation describes pictorially that which many remain immutable about – the journey into dementia.

Using allegory and metaphor, she attempts openly and sensitively to convey the feelings of an intimate, real-time witness, conveying the observations she has made of the lost identity, independence and mental capacity experienced through the cloak of her mother’s dementia – a reductive condition, which gradually erodes the capacity for verbal communication, like mapping a return journey from adulthood back to infancy and a final place of rest.
