Jessica Abraham

Combining piecing and stitching, printing and dyeing, Jessica creates cloths, canvases and assembles dimensional collage.  Layers of printed imagery are derived from urban architecture and printed onto pieced cloths, the detailing is incorporated from her own writings and maps.

Recent work has focused on apartment blocks, both inhabited and when partly demolished:  a new series has been inspired by stone – the surface of stone revealed when cut to form the building blocks of traditional, majestic buildings – and how over time the surfaces change with both natural weathering and graffiti, ancient and modern.

A recurring theme is the contrast between what is concealed and what is revealed.
